What Four Days on the Classic Trail Ask of You

Every classic trek walks the same 42–46 km from Km 82, and the hard part is the same for everyone: day two climbs to Warmiwañusca at 4 215 m, and nights at the high camps drop to about 3 °C in the dry season. Spend two or three days in Cusco first.

Permits: Sold by name, 500 a day including porters and guides, about 200 of them for trekkers. June to August goes five to six months ahead.
Passport: The number you give at booking must match the passport you carry on the day, and it must be valid for six months.
Changes: Once the permit is bought, the name and date cannot be changed; most classic treks are non-refundable.
February: The whole trail closes for maintenance; nothing is sold for that month.
