Worth It for Two, Not for One

For a couple, this is the cheapest way to walk the classic trail in a group of ten with the sleeping gear included: $823 each, against $798 on our pick in a group of sixteen. For one traveller, the checkout price nearly doubles and our pick is the better buy.

What Four Days on the Classic Trail Ask of You

Every classic trek walks the same 42–46 km from Km 82, and the hard part is the same for everyone: day two climbs to Warmiwañusca at 4 215 m, and nights at the high camps drop to about 3 °C in the dry season. Spend two or three days in Cusco first.

Permits
Sold by name, 500 a day including porters and guides, about 200 of them for trekkers. June to August goes five to six months ahead.
Passport
The number you give at booking must match the passport you carry on the day, and it must be valid for six months.
Changes
Once the permit is bought, the name and date cannot be changed; most classic treks are non-refundable.
February
The whole trail closes for maintenance; nothing is sold for that month.

Citadel ticketSince 2026 the trail permit no longer includes every part of Machu Picchu; each listing says which circuit you enter. This one: Circuit 1 (panoramic photo only; guided tour of citadel is OPTIONAL extra re-entry ticket).
