We do not name operators, because the answer changes with the season and with who is guiding that week. What does not change is the list of things that separate a good trek from a cheap one, and every one of them is visible in the listing before you book.

  1. Group size: 16 on the largest classic groups, 8 on the smallest.
  2. Porter allowance: 5, 6 or 7 kg of your things — or none on the cheapest.
  3. Train back: the Vistadome with the panoramic roof, or the Expedition.
  4. Citadel: which circuit is guided, or only the view from the Sun Gate.
  5. Cancellation: most classic treks are non-refundable; a few short-trail tours are not.
